Want to teach crochet with confidence and build real-world teaching skills? This two-day, in-person Level 1 Crochet Instructor Training is designed to give you hands-on experience, personalised guidance, and the confidence to teach successfully.

Held just before the Crochet Convention in Wollongong this June, the course is taught face to face by a range of experienced crochet professionals from across the Guild.

Learning in person means you can ask questions as they arise, receive immediate feedback on your technique, and take part in open forum discussions where instructors share practical insights from their own teaching experiences, all grounded in the course curriculum.

Why in-person training makes a difference

    • Learn through hands-on demonstrations and guided practice
    • Receive real-time feedback on both crochet and teaching techniques
    • Learn from multiple crochet professionals with diverse teaching backgrounds
    • Take part in open forum discussions that bring the curriculum to life
    • Connect with experienced Guild members and fellow aspiring teachers
    • Build confidence through shared learning and practical problem-solving

    What you’ll learn

    • How to teach both left-handed and right-handed students
    • How to plan clear, structured lessons
    • Classroom management skills for different learning styles and abilities
    • Core teaching principles aligned to Craft Yarn Council of America standards, but with the focus on Australian culture, terminology and history

Across the two days, you’ll complete practical crochet activities, participate in guided group activities, and work through written components that reinforce key teaching concepts. You’ll receive a comprehensive training manual before the course begins to help you prepare your samples in advance, support you during the training, and serve as an ongoing reference afterwards.

On successful completion of the assessment tasks, you’ll receive your Level 1 Instructor Certificate and badge, with the option to continue on to Level 2 and work toward a Teacher Certificate.

    Teacher: Industry and crochet professionals
    Date: 17-18 June 2026
    Duration:

    Two full-day sessions: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Students are required to arrive 30 minutes early on day one to drop off their completed crochet samples. These will be assessed during the face-to-face teacher program

Inclusions:  A digital PDF manual will be emailed upon successful registration. Please bring a copy of this manual to the session.
Skill Level:  Experienced crocheters with a solid technical foundation and broad knowledge of crochet techniques. Participants should be confident in explaining, discussing and adapting crochet techniques.

Please bring the following with you to the Course sessions:

    • Scissors, stitch markers, yarn needle
    • Notebook and pen
