Stop guessing and start making crochet garments that you want to wear AND that actually fit. In this hands-on workshop with Jane Downey, you will tackle one of the most common frustrations in garment making: sizing that looks right on paper but not on your body.

Learn why gauge really matters, how to swatch with purpose, block and measure your gauge, and how to adjust patterns so they suit your shape, not someone else’s. You will take a full set of body measurements, explore garment shapes by trying them on, and learn how small changes deliver big confidence. With over 40 years of crochet experience, Jane shows you how to turn skill into everyday wearability.

Teacher: Jane Downey
Date: Friday 19 June
Duration: 2.00 - 5.00
Skill Level:  Intermediate: involved stitch patterns, colourwork and/or shaping

General admission for the day (Friday, 19 June)

Handouts prepared by Jane Downey

Please bring the following with you to the workshop session:

      • Choose a garment pattern and make at least two gauge swatches as outlined in the pattern before the class (a guide to swatching will be provided before the conference)
      • Bring the pattern, yarn, swatches, hooks and any other materials you’re using for the project above
      • Tape measure and ruler
      • Notebook and pen
      • Jane will have various crochet garments which you can try on during the class, so you may like to wear a singlet top or fitted top over which you can try garments.

      Workshop notes:

      • Participants need to select and bring a crochet garment pattern of their choice; no patterns will be provided for this workshop (a guide to choosing patterns will be provided before the conference)
      • Participants are encouraged to bring any crochet garments they have previously made (including any they feel disappointed with)

This session will be delivered in-person only - no online offering will be made available.

Please read our event terms including cancellation and privacy policy before booking.
