Crochet Convention

19-21 June 2026 | Novotel Wollongong Northbeach New South Wales

Sustainability at the heart of the convention
For us, sustainability in crochet is about making thoughtfully and with intention. It means choosing quality over speed, valuing handmade skills, using materials mindfully, and creating pieces that are made to last. It’s also about supporting small makers, sharing knowledge, and building a community that respects both the craft and the people behind it. Throughout the convention, sustainability will be explored through workshops, conversations and the yarn market, offering practical ideas you can take into your own crochet practice.

Three days of learning, creating, inspiration and connection
We’re thrilled to welcome a mix of international and Australian designers, including Toni Lipsey (TL Yarn Crafts), Krisztine Anna Edömér (K.A.M.E. Crochet), Rhondda Mol (Oombawka Design Crochet), Arunima Goel (Knitterknotter) and Abbey from Abbeymade

What's on

General program

Slow Stitch Hour: Put down the to-do list and just crochet for a while. This is an hour of quiet music, good company, and no agenda. Pull out whatever you are working on, find a comfortable spot, and enjoy the simple pleasure of stitching alongside fellow crocheters.

Vendor Chat: Get up close with the vendors and brands who are part of our crochet world. This is your chance to hear directly from them on stage, ask the questions you have always wanted to, and find out what is coming next.

Demonstrations: Watch a talented maker work through their process from start to finish. Part tutorial, part conversation, this session gives you a genuine look into how another crocheter thinks, solves problems, and brings a piece to life.

Designer Spotlight: An honest conversation with designers whose work you may already know and love. They will talk about their creative process, the ideas that did not make it, what inspires them, and what they have learned along the way. Bring your questions.

  • Friday: Krisztina Anna Edömér and Arunima Goel
  • Saturday: Hooked on Sunshine and Shelley Husband
  • Sunday: Toni Lipsey — Designer Spotlight and book signing

Open Hook: This one belongs to the audience. Whether you want to share a technique, talk through a design you are working on, or just show off a WIP you are proud of, the stage is yours. The best share of the session takes home a $100 voucher.

Crochet Catwalk: The runway comes to the convention floor. Wearables, accessories, statement pieces and everything in between take centre stage as our community shows off what crochet can really look like. Prizes awarded, applause guaranteed.

Crochet Games: Speed crochet, tangled trials, the stitch-switch challenge, and more. Come ready to compete, cheer, and laugh. Prizes are up for grabs, and absolutely no crochet experience is required. Games take place throughout the day, often between sessions.

Sustainable Granny Square Competition

Crochet has always been a sustainable craft—portable, low-waste, and full of potential to transform simple materials into something meaningful. This year, we’re celebrating that tradition with our Sustainable Granny Square Competition, inviting makers of all skill levels to create a single granny square that reflects thoughtful, intentional crafting.

Entry Requirements:

  • Materials: Use sustainable or recycled fibres of any weight or type.
  • Design: Submit either your own original design or a traditional pattern. If using another designer’s pattern, include the pattern name and designer.
  • Size: Your granny square must have a final stitch count of 84 stitches around.
  • Shape: Ensure it is a true square with 4 equal sides and 4 corners.

This competition is more than a stitch, it’s an opportunity to showcase creativity, sustainability and the power of making with intention. Entries can be submitted by post or in-person at the convention.
