Explore the beauty of mitred motifs in this creative workshop, where you’ll crochet a stunning open-weave poncho using this versatile technique. The clever construction of mitred motifs allows for an elegant drape and an airy, lacy effect—perfect for layering in any season.

Led by Vicky Lewdy, past Secretary of Crochet Guild Australia, this workshop will guide you through the process of joining motifs seamlessly to create a flowing, stylish poncho. You’ll gain confidence in working with shaping, motif placement, and joining techniques while crafting a piece that showcases structure and movement.

This project is ideal for crocheters looking to expand their skills with motifs and garment construction. Whether you prefer bold colour contrasts or a soft, neutral palette, your poncho will be as unique as you are.

By the end of the session, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to complete your poncho and experiment with mitred motifs in future projects. This is a fantastic way to learn, create, and wear your crochet with pride!

General admission for the day (Sunday, 29 June).

Please bring the following with you to the workshop session:

  • 200g of 8ply yarn in a fiber and colour of your choice
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • crochet stitch markers
  • scissors and yarn needle for finishing
  • notebook and pen

Workshop note:

If wanting to make for a summer accent piece, by all means substitute your yarn for either 4 or 8 ply cotton and choose the hook that best suits its size.

This is a very versatile design. You can easily make it to fit any size body by simply making more or less pieces and by altering the type and thickness of your chosen yarn. So don’t be afraid to experiment.
